Telehealth

Telehealth follow-up appointments by secure video

Most of our clinicians see established patients by video anywhere in Florida. Your first appointment is completed in our office, and telehealth picks up from there.

Telehealth is a scheduled appointment that happens over secure video instead of in our office. It is the same clinician, the same length of session, and the same treatment plan. What changes is that you join from wherever you are rather than driving to Melbourne.

Your first visit is always in the office, for every clinician here and for every kind of care, therapy and medication management alike, and telehealth begins only once you and your clinician have met in person, picking up with follow-up appointments from there. We would rather you read that here than discover it when you call to book.

Not everyone offers it even then, and that is also worth saying plainly. Our clinicians who see established patients this way are listed below. Our psychiatrists see patients in the office.

Whether telehealth suits a particular appointment is a clinical judgment, and it is one you and your clinician make together. Some visits are better in person, and some people simply prefer the room. Both are fine.

Who offers telehealth follow-ups

Current as of this page. Availability changes, so please confirm when you call.

Therapy

Ongoing individual, couples, and family therapy by video, with these clinicians, once you have had your first session in the office.

Medication management

The prescribers below offer medication management follow-ups by video. Your initial psychiatric evaluation is completed in the office, and some ongoing prescribing carries its own in-person requirement on top of that. Your prescriber will tell you which of your appointments need the room.

When telehealth fits, and when it does not

A rough guide. Your clinician makes the call for your care.

  • Often works well

Ongoing talk therapy with a clinician you have already met, follow-up conversations about how a treatment plan is going, and appointments that would otherwise be missed because of work, travel, childcare, or the drive in from the south end of the county.

  • Needs the office

Your first appointment, whoever you are seeing and whatever you are coming in for. After that: any visit where a clinician needs to examine or assess you in person, and certain kinds of ongoing prescribing that carry their own in-person requirement. Your clinician will tell you which of your appointments those are.

Telehealth is scheduled care and is not for an emergency. If you are in crisis, call 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency department. More crisis numbers are on our patient resources page.

What you will need

Three things, and the first one is the one people are surprised by.

To be physically in Florida

Our clinicians are licensed in Florida, and a telehealth appointment takes place where the patient is sitting rather than where they usually live. That means we can see you anywhere in the state, including the far end of the Space Coast and well past Brevard County, but we cannot see you while you are out of state, even for a week. If you are traveling, tell us when you book so we can move the appointment rather than cancel it.

A private place to sit, and a device with a camera

A phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone, on a connection steady enough to hold video. What matters more than the equipment is the room: somewhere you are not overheard and will not be interrupted, because the session is the same conversation you would have in our office. If you are not sure whether a space is private enough, your clinician will talk it through with you.

A few minutes before your first video visit

Our office sends the link and walks you through joining it. Sign on a little early the first time so a permissions prompt or a microphone setting does not eat into the session. If the video fails partway through, your clinician will call you.

How to ask for a telehealth appointment

Call our office at (321) 779-9838 and say you would like a telehealth appointment. Our staff will tell you which clinicians have video availability, whether your insurance covers a telehealth visit, and whether what you are coming in for is better handled in the office.

We ask you to call rather than filling in a form because availability moves week to week and the answer depends on who you are seeing and what for. A person can tell you that in one conversation. Our insurance page lists the plans we accept, and coverage for telehealth is worth confirming with your plan as well as with us.

If you are already a patient here, the patient portal is for existing patients and does not take new appointment requests. Please call.
