Does our practice take Cigna?

We accept Cigna for psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and therapy. Behavioral health is frequently administered separately from medical, so call our billing team with the card in your hand.

Adult & Child Counseling & Psychiatric Center accepts Cigna at our Melbourne office, for psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and therapy. One thing is worth knowing before you call: on many plans, mental health benefits are not handled by the same operation that handles a visit to your family doctor, which is why the answer you get can depend on which number you rang.

Behavioral health is often a separate desk

Turn the card over. Alongside the general member services number there is frequently a second one, printed under a heading like behavioral health or mental health. On many plans that number reaches a different administrator, with its own network, its own authorization rules, and its own record of who is in it.

This is the most common reason two people come away with two different answers about the same plan. The medical line answers about medical. It is not the desk holding the behavioral network, and it will often say so only if asked directly.

What to have in front of you when you call

The member ID and the group number from the front of the card, the behavioral health number from the back, and, if the plan came through an employer, the employer's name. Say who the appointment is for as well: whether the patient is a child, an adolescent or an adult changes what our billing team has to ask.

If your employer runs an assistance program, that is usually a separate benefit from the health plan, with its own sessions and its own authorization. Mention it on the call rather than assuming it is folded in, because it is checked in a different place.

A referral can land on the wrong side of the plan

Where a plan asks for a referral, it has to reach the part of the plan that manages behavioral benefits, and that is not always where a primary care office sends things by default. The first anyone hears about it is usually a claim coming back unpaid, weeks after the appointment.

So we confirm it arrived rather than assume it did. If your primary care provider is sending something over, give us their office name when you call and our billing team will go looking for it.

Common questions

Which number on my Cigna card should I call?
If you are checking mental health benefits yourself, use the behavioral health number on the back rather than the general one. Or read both to us and our billing team will make the call on your behalf.
Do I need an authorization before a first appointment?
It depends on the plan, and behavioral benefits carry their own rules separate from the medical side of the same plan. Call our office before you book and our billing team will find out what yours asks for.
My employer's assistance program offered a few sessions. Does that apply here?
Say so when you call. An assistance program is usually a separate benefit with its own authorization, so it gets checked separately from the health plan, and it is much easier to raise in advance than to sort out afterwards.

Not every provider takes every plan listed here, and plans change. Call our office first. We will check your plan for the provider you want to see.
