Does our practice take Florida Blue?
We accept Florida Blue for psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and therapy. Florida Blue is not one plan, so call and our billing team will check the network printed on your card.
Adult & Child Counseling & Psychiatric Center accepts Florida Blue at our Melbourne office, for psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and therapy. The more useful question is rarely whether a practice takes Florida Blue. It is which Florida Blue plan you hold, because the name on the front of the card and the network sitting behind it are two different things.
Florida Blue is the company. The network is the question.
Florida Blue is the Blue Cross and Blue Shield licensee for this state, which means a Florida Blue card can arrive from an employer, from a plan bought on the marketplace, or from a Medicare plan. Those are different products, sold to different people, and each carries its own network.
Two neighbors can hold cards with the same shield on them and get different answers about the same practice. That is not a quirk of this office, it is how the plans are built, and it is why the network name matters more here than the company name does.
What our billing team works from
The useful things to have to hand are the network or plan name and the member ID from the front of the card, the group number if the plan came through an employer, and the service number printed on the back. With those, we can check the plan itself.
Our billing team makes that check directly rather than reading a benefits summary back to you. What you get is a plain answer about your plan, and if there is a step to clear first, what it is and whose job it is.
A Blue card from another state is not a Florida Blue card
A lot of people in Brevard moved here from somewhere else, and some arrive holding a Blue Cross Blue Shield card issued in another state. Those are separate companies, licensed in their own states, even though the shield on the card looks much the same.
Say which state issued the card when you call. It changes who our billing team contacts and what they have to ask, and it is the detail most likely to go unmentioned, because nothing on the card gives you a reason to think it matters.
Common questions
- How do I tell which Florida Blue plan I have?
- Look at the front of the card. Near the member ID there is usually a network or plan name, and that is the line our billing team needs. If you cannot find it, read us everything printed on the front and we will work out which one it is.
- My plan came from the marketplace, not my employer. Does that change things?
- It can. Marketplace plans, employer plans and Medicare plans are sold separately and built separately, even when one company's name is on all three. We check the plan rather than the company.
- I have a Blue Cross card from another state. Should I still call?
- Yes, and mention the state on the call. Each state's Blue plan is its own company, so the card in your wallet is not the same product as a Florida Blue plan, and our billing team handles it differently.
